WEAR THE STORY
GTB X ALICE D X MAHKA
Written by Jebediah Shorten
He’s gone and done it! Old mate Paul has conquered Honkers, with a little help from us mind you. Guerrilla Theatre Brand (GTB) is the creative brainchild of Melbourne’s own Paul Stam and his goddamn new collection Chapter 2 High Power is fucking nuts! He’s been invited to showcase his new shiz over at Hong Kong design week (3 rd -9 th of December), along with some other Melbourne designers showcasing their goods.
GTB is a premium street-wear brand born in 2014 that invites its audience to “Wear the story!” It is a mythical, multi-layered narrative chronicling visions of the future that find life on film and then seamlessly through fashion that is wearable art. Their concept store is located at SoHigh Gallery on Chapel Street down Windsor way. Seriously, if you haven’t been there to check it out what’re you doing with your life? (It re-opens with a new configuration in the New Year by the way). All of his clothes are designed and manufactured in Melbourne,
which is a big fucking YAS from me!
Born and raised in Sunshine (don’t let the name deceive you), Paul started his journey in music and business strategy design before swiftly moving into creative direction and art based high-end street wear. His latest collection involves velvet, crystals, kimonos, trackies and hoodies as well as an absolutely BOSS leather jacket. And of course all of his designs are influenced by the story.
In true Alice D style we decided to team up with GTB and our besties over at Mahka owned by our fav Frenchie Maguelone Calmels to host the world premiere of CHAPTER 2 – HIGH POWER. This fashion film is next level, like proper game changer. He teamed up with an array of Melbourne artist’s to create some original artwork, each having a different verse of the GTB story. Artists included Gareth Stehr (a.k.a Dirtsquid), Marian Machismo, Ryan Ady Putra, Chris Drummond, Sam Octigan, Sean Morris, Fikos Antonios and Chehehe. Boom.
Congratulations are in order for Mahka on reaching their 2-year anniversary and Fauve Radio’s 1st. The clothing and lifestyle brand has totally taken off and is becoming more noted for hosting events as you can see from an article featured about them in this month’s Time Out Magazine HK. Or if you’re in the area go check out there store at 4 Wa Lane, just off Hollywood Road in Sheung Wan.
If you’re thinking, well great Jebidoo I wasn’t in bloody Hong Kong and you’re rambling on about this rad event, well fret not! There will be a GTB Melbourne launch in the New Year, so stay tuned and watch this space! We will keep y’all updated. In the meantime check out these photos from the event shot by Nicoline Aagesen.
